How a hardcover is made
Your pages are printed on our Canon varioPRINT iX press and bound into a book block. The cover is printed as one sheet and wrapped around the boards, so your artwork runs across the back, the spine and the front.
The spine gets wider as you add pages. The product page for your size works out the spine for your page count and the exact size to export your cover at.

Side-sewn for books that get used
The 8.5 × 11 hardcover is side-sewn: thread runs through the pages close to the spine, so the book holds together through years of reading. Leave a wider margin on the bound edge; its product page shows how much.

How much does a hardcover book cost?
Each size has a base price plus a price for each page, listed on this page, and the price per copy is the same at any quantity. A bigger plan lowers the price of every page. See plans and prices.
How many pages can a hardcover have?
From 20 to 160 pages, in steps of 2.
Can I order a single hardcover?
Yes. Print one copy to hold and check, then order more at the same price per copy.
Matte or gloss?
Most sizes have a matte cover, which shows less glare and fewer fingerprints. The 8 × 8 hardcover also comes in gloss.
Can the spine have text on it?
Yes, from 60 pages up. Below that the spine is too narrow to print text on cleanly.
