Quantum MCP

Connect an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude to your Quantum account. It can look up prices and orders, work out the exact sizes for a book's cover and pages, check your PDFs, and place an order for you once you have seen the price and said yes.

The Quantum MCP is a server that follows the Model Context Protocol, the standard way assistants use outside tools. It works through the same account, roles and rules as the dashboard: an assistant can never do more than you can.

Connect an assistant

The server address is the same for every assistant. You sign in with your Quantum login in your browser and approve the connection; the assistant never sees your password.

Server address
https://mcp.quantum-production.com/mcp

Claude

In Claude, open Settings and then Connectors, add a custom connector, and paste the address above. Claude opens a Quantum page to approve the connection.

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT's settings, add a custom connector (called an app in some versions) and paste the address above, choosing OAuth for sign-in. Custom connectors may need Developer mode, and what your plan allows is set by OpenAI and, for workspaces, your admin: check OpenAI's help for your plan. We have tested the connection with ChatGPT and with Claude.

Claude Code and other assistants

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can connect. In Claude Code:

Shell
claude mcp add --transport http quantum https://mcp.quantum-production.com/mcp

After we add tools, refresh the connector. An assistant saves the list of tools when you connect. If it says it can't do something it should be able to, refresh or reconnect the connector in its settings so it reads the current list.

What you approve

The approval page shows which assistant is asking, which Quantum account and role it will act with, and where it will go back to. From then on it acts as you on that account. You can see your connected assistants and disconnect any of them on the dashboard's AI assistants page; disconnecting cuts it off immediately. Changing your role, or being removed from the account, takes effect on its next call.

People with the viewer or billing role can look things up but not check files or order. There is no tool to cancel an order: cancelling stays in the dashboard.

Have an assistant make a book

Ask it to make a book for Quantum. It asks Quantum for the print sizes (get_print_specs) instead of asking you: the interior page size with bleed, the cover's total width and height, the spine for your page count, the wrap and the safe areas. The spine depends on the number of pages, so it is worked out for yours. These are the same numbers as the templates and file checker in the dashboard, and the same as Preparing files. If production hasn't confirmed a product's sizes yet, the assistant is told so rather than given guesses.

Assistants can't receive files you attach in a chat, so the PDFs reach Quantum in one of two ways: a public https link to each PDF (the link must open without signing in), or an upload you make yourself on the dashboard's Upload print files page. Ask the assistant for the link, upload the PDFs there, and tell it when you are done. It then checks the files and fixes what it can before ordering.

An assistant that can run commands on your computer or in a sandbox, such as Claude Cowork or Claude Code, can send the PDFs itself: it sends each file to a temporary address on api.quantum-production.com. If its network settings only allow certain sites, allow that address, or use one of the two ways above.

Placing an order

  1. The assistant checks your files (check_files) and asks for a price (quote_order) with the quantity, shipping method and address.
  2. It shows you the total and what it covers. Shipping is an estimate until the label prints, and tax is calculated when the order is placed.
  3. Only when you clearly say yes does it call place_order, stating the total you saw. The order is exactly what was quoted.

If the price changed, or the 15-minute quote has expired, nothing is charged and the assistant has to quote again and show you the new total. Asking twice from one quote makes one order. The order is charged to your account's credit like any other, shows in your dashboard as placed through the assistant, and you see it with find_orders or on the Orders page.

You also need a brand on the Brands page, and credit in the mode you are ordering in.

Sandbox first, live when an owner allows it

Assistants place sandbox orders by default. They go through every status but are never printed, shipped or charged to real money. That is the best way to see how it works.

Live orders are real: printed, shipped and charged. Through an assistant they stay off until an owner or admin turns them on in the dashboard, on the AI assistants page, and sets a daily limit: the most assistants can place in live orders in any 24 hours, for the whole account. An order that would go past it is refused. The owner can turn it off again at any time.

Changing an order

An assistant can change the shipping address of a sandbox order. The address of a live order can't be changed from an assistant, because production may already have it: contact support@quprod.com with the order id.

Safety, limits and records

  • An assistant acts as you, with your role, on the account you approved. It cannot choose another account.
  • Placing an order needs a quote and the total you were shown. An assistant can't place something you were not quoted, and can't change a quote.
  • Limits: 120 requests a minute and 10 orders an hour for each person, plus the owner's daily limit for live orders.
  • Every request an assistant makes is logged with the assistant's name, and orders placed this way are marked with it. Addresses are not kept in that log.
  • Text in orders, such as names and notes, was typed by other people. Assistants are told to treat it as information and never as instructions, but as with any assistant, read what it proposes before you agree to it.

If something doesn't work

  • The assistant says it can't order or doesn't know a tool. Refresh or reconnect the connector so it reads the current tools. Your role also matters: viewers and billing users can't order.
  • "Add a brand on the Brands page." Orders ship under a brand; add one in the dashboard.
  • Live orders are off. An owner or admin turns them on under AI assistants.
  • A file link isn't reached. It must be an https link to a PDF that opens without signing in, up to 30 MB for the quick check; otherwise upload it in the dashboard.
  • Anything else: support@quprod.com.
